Instructions on making compost with EM
The spirit of making is what matters
The key of making good quality EM garbage compost depends on the persons attitude.

It is important not to generate waste. When you cook, try to use everything. Most of the ingredients dont have to be disposed of, even though you may consider them as being waste. Make a point not to leave leftovers, when you prepare a meal or eat. It is a shame that you waste the blessings of nature that reach our tables.

Even though you may generate waste, think of it as a nature resource instead of something unuseful. It should be returned to nature, that in turn becomes something that we benefit from. It is imporant that you are thankful of what nature offers us.

Some say that food spiced with loves tastes completely diffrent from the one without. The same principle applies when making compost from kitchen garbage. Since EM are living thinks like other animals, it may not be to much to say that the EM will sende the maker's sincerity upon fulfilling it's task.

This is somewhat simular to cooking for a loved one. You must shower the process with a love towards nature, along with the sincerity and paience to make quality compost.


  • Break your waste food into small pieces in order for the EM to become active

  • kepp the garbage container away from the faucet to keep it from getting wet. Threat the garbage everyday.

  • First, the EM Bokashi is spread in the bottom of the fermantation bucket, this promotes smoot fermentation

  • Well drained garbage should be placed in the bucket. Dried

  • Each time garbage is added, there is a need to spread a handful of EM Bokashi (20-30g). Increase the ammount in summer time

  • Mix EM Bokashi well and then spread again.

  • Since EM bokashi is anaerobiccy active, push the garbage down with a wooden spatula to release air

  • Close the lid tightly. The lid can easily be opened and closed by facing the protuding portion of the lid towards the front when closed.

  • Drain garbage juice solution, (liquid fertilizer). The liquid easily spoils so it should be diluted and used with in a day

  • When the garbage occupies 80% of the container, close the lid and keep in a dark place for about 1-2 weeks

  • When the garbage smells like pickles it can be used for flowers and vegtables



When things go wrong (Bucket)

  • Close the lid tightly

  • Use the appropiate sized bucket for the amount of garbage

  • Wash the bucket after every use

When things go wrong (Location)

  • Avoid direct sunlight, and bright places

When you add garbage

  • Add EM bokashi at the bottom of the bucket when you add garbage for the first time

  • And inside lid or plastic bag is placed over the garbage

  • Push the garbage to release air

  • Break large items into smaller pieces

  • Add garbage while its still fresh

  • do not use decomposed garbage

  • Drain water well


Garbage juice

  • Drain the juice often

  • Do not leave any left-over juice in the bucket
